I've been having issues getting the Bluetooth connection part of this working on Windows 11. The device can pair using the Windows utility, but the Across Center can't do much with it. It recognizes there's Bluetooth available but always "Error Code: 7" when clicking on the Add button. I'm thinking it's maybe the Media/RealTek chipset in the dongles I have now because other similar software isn't able to use them to control anything either. In another thread I saw the vendor suggesting a Qualcomm or Broadcom adapter. Can anyone recommend an adapter that's been working well for them to control a device on both Windows and Linux?
Hi, In amazon.com, search for a Bluetooth dongle with "CSR 4.0" keyword. It will work flawlessly for both Windows and Linux. If you have had one, please don't install any accompanied software of its package. OS default driver will work for it. Hope it helps. Thank you.
Thank you for your reply Seungjin! Are you aware of any modern Bluetooth dongles that support CSR 4.0? Most of the manufacturer sites I visit just fill the page with marketing jargon and boast about range or supported versions of Windows, yay. Not really much detail on what they actually support in terms of this CSR thing. When I query my usual retailers of course I get flooded with Bluetooth 4.0 adapters because (this is why) we can't have nice things. Right now I'm eyeing the UB400 from TP-Link thanks for some forum posts online but the actual manufacturer site doesn't seem to list CSR anywhere on the specifications. Naturally I want the newer UB500 but I can't find anything about it supporting CSR. If there any product that also offers Bluetooth 5.3 or 5.4 along with the desired CSR 4.0 compatibility?
CSR is a chipset vendor (like Broadcom), not Bluetooth technology or something. While CSR and Broadcom are top quality vendors for USB Bluetooth chipset having long history, RealTek and MediaTek are newbies compared to CSR or Broadcom. UB500 may be based on a RealTek chipset (https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=368114). Nowadays most USB Bluetooth adapter makers use RealTek chipsets since they are relatively low price and so can give better margin. You can find many USB BT dongles based on CSR chipset in amazon.com with "CSR 4.0" keyword. Thank you.
Hi Seungjin, thank you again for helping me out here. When I search for "CSR 4.0" Amazon and the other usual spots they all do that awful thing where they replace parts of my query and I end up with a million results for "4.0" adapters. Same thing is I search for "Bluetooth CSR" I end up with a million results for Bluetooth but completely overlooking the CSR keyword. I'm having an awful time finding a somewhat new adapter. The adapters that show up for me when using the CSR keyword generally are Bluetooth 4.0. Are you aware of any newer adapters with Bluetooth 5.3 that are using the chipset from CSR or Broadcom? I apologize in advance here for asking the same thing repeatedly. Search is getting the best of me here and it's incredibly frustrating to say the least.
Ok. Then, just purchase UB400 (chipset: CSR) instead of UB500 (chipset: RealTek), since our app would not work for RealTek chipset. Thank you.
